The Shed is an ongoing research project that investigates the relationship between sheds and American identity. Sheds are common landmarks and as cultural phenomenon they are linked to legacies of imperialism, segregation, and material culture. Situated behind a residence in a semi-suburban neighborhood of Columbus, OH this project turns the backyard, a private space, into a shared space for cultural exchange, building community, and the interrogation of local and national histories. The Shed is a platform for exchanging ideas and culture amongst artists, thinkers, and the people of a city, on fertile ground beyond institutions.
