The drawing is the result of a series of smaller drawings. This large intervention is in response to the condition of the space: the binary of inside-outside, the storefront aspect of the windows, and how one might view the work from either side. So whether one is inside or out on the street, the perspective is the same. Rather than viewing people viewing work hanging on a wall, everyone is looking at the same point on the floor. In that way viewing is made even, access is equal. This is an appropriate entry point to my logic for this installation.
The ladder is a form taken from a series of myths associated with class: the economic ladder is there to be climbed; progress is here to help; achievement is based on the individual’s drive. This ladder is made
against the mythic promise of wealth and security through capitalism.
